Still nothing after two weeks. Very confused.

Previously, two weeks ago my cakes were not growing. I was instructed to dunk them in water for a 24 hour period and then place them back into the chamber and they would grow in another two weeks. Well, its been another two weeks and there is nothing happening in there. It is very frustrating. What should I do, there is ample water and I fan at-least twice a day???

They are so wet that there are little droplets on some of the mycelia. It is really really wet in there. If you feel the tops of some of them they feel really damp.

Have you covered them in vermiculite since colonisation? The pictures look as though the cakes are not fully colonised.

12-16hrs. initiates pins nicely when coincided with a drop in temps and fresh air exchange. Also make sure RH is high and your verm is moist. I also recommend fanning twice as much as you are now with a fanning duration of 20-30 sec. GL

Could you take a larger pic for us? Its just really hard to see from this distance, just pick a few cakes and take a segmented picture that shows the detail of the cakes?
If the humidity is too high that may be your problem.

Yes, they were covered in verm. after they were colonized. Okay, so I should turn the ac down to 64F tonight (i had it there for most of last week with no success), and shine a 40-watt light on them? and I should fan a lot more? For RH should I stick a hydrometer in there for a few hours and then post what the humidity is?

IMO too much verm so the myc doesnt get the light. so its not getting the last most important pin trigger.

i dont think buying a light is nesscary. i would remove some verm.. i usally just roll my cakes in dry verm and call it good. ive double ended cased 1 time and didnt really see a huge benfit. however i would say with out a dbout you have WAY TO MUCH verm. wait till someone else comments on this idea about removing the verm. i am unsure. but make sure your giving your cakes plenty of fresh air exchange/high RH/and a constant temp of 75 degress and 16-18 hours of light for a pin set!!

just give them light 16-18 hours.. if your going to use natural sunlight make it indirect so it doesnt harm the cakes.

but its not on an acual cake its like comming off some myc that is like a little bridge off the cake. No signs of pin growth on the real cakes. What should I do? Should I still make the changes or just wait?

just wait... fan 5-6 times a day. make sure that you dont pick the cakes up and play with them... its just not what they like and most of all keep the temp stable and 16-18 horus of light! you will win this battle.

NOT!!!! It means nothing of the sort, it only indicates that you have a fruiting strain which may or may not pin prolifically. (fact!) either way GL!!!!

Where the hell did this 16-18hrs. come from? 12-16hrs. has always been the standard for optimal pinsets IME. Especially stubborn ones They seem to grow better with a longer dark period after pins are set so I've heard

ok, thin out tha verm layer. You said the verm is wet, you don't want it dry but you don't want it soaking or soggy either. (ever seen how long a cake that is to wet takes to finish?) Fanning twice a day, simply put do more.
You will get the hang of it I can feel it

Tell us about your substrate? Is it BRF/Verm? What kind of BRF? Some non-organic BRF have pesticides and preservatives that will ultimately inhibit your fungus.

I would put it in front of a window, indirect sunlight. I bet if you put them in front of a window and give them some good light they will pin.
