Grafts pushing themselves off?
    #3142526 - 09/16/04 05:49 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Hey peoples...
Just wondering, is it possible for a peyote graft to push itself off from the stock, with its own growth?

I have a graft that I did in February and its growing really well. The thing I'm worried about is that the peyote sprung a pup very close to its base and that pup has grown quite a lot, pushing the main button to the side. I'm worried its going to lift the whole graft off. Is this possible, or will the channels that join the two cacti grow as it gets pushed over to the side? Should I remove the pup thats doing the pushing?

i've already seen it happen!
you can try doing some extra bevelling around the pup like i did the last time this horrible problem struck me...
or you can cut and root the pup. indeed, they push the cactus upwards.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've removed the problem pup and I'm planning on planting it on its own rather than grafting. It was lucky that I removed it because I saw when I took it off that it has actually formed three mini pups of its own which were sandwiched between it and the main pup, so I think that would have messed things up even more. I cut the three mini pups of cause they would have been underground anyway so I figured it might spring some roots from the sites of the young pups.
