i tried making a batch of jars using 1/4 rhye flour 1/4 brf 1/2 verm and some ground up coffee shells. i got no growth for awhile and now it seems to have fully colonized almost overnight. any thoughts?

never heard of that, thats pretty interesting though. I've read a tek or two about using fresh coffee bean shells but never had the shells to actually try it out. You might be able to find FAQs for those teks if you can find them.

Sound like a mold to me. They often grow unnoticed and then seem to explode with growth when producing spores.

coffee shells don't have a ph of 7
maybe it takes awhile till enzymes change it,
try to add a buffer and see what happens next time

Yo Laz,
Kinda sounds like wisker mold to me. My friend had a run in with it at one time. Would almost fully colonize an entire jar of rye over night. Very fluffy with a slight off white to greish color. If thats what it is it should start to change colors in a few days. Keep an eye on them before you open them. If they do change colors make sure to re-sterilize them before you dump them.
