PH level of casing soil?

I just cased 2 days ago some rye, using 50/50peat verm. I didn't have Yi-Yeild hydrated lime then, but I do now. I bought a PH testing kit and check it, and it's at around 6.
1. What should the PH level be? 2. How would I add hydrated lime now? Add it in a spray bottle and spray it on?

Mycelium will tolerate a wide pH range but prefers a neutral range 7.0-7.5. The pH value will gradually fall as mycelium secretes acidic waste to the point where trich can florish. Now understand hydrated lime (short term buffer) needs to be used in conjuction with a long term buffer (limestone flour, oystershell flour, powderized eggshell, etc;) for best results and a stable casing capable of many flushes. I have used hydrated lime water with good results at 1-2tsp. per gal. of water, I've used this to wet down the casing after pasturizing.

Hyphae, what ratio of limestone/oyster shell flour (and wtf is limestone "flour"??) to your neutral casing ingredients? I have been using hydrated lime to buffer verm on top of poo/straw casings. Second flush is coming on now....should I be concerned and go find some long-term buffer ingredients? THanks for all your help!

Hyphae--never mind on the wtf is... Found the link in your other post. Now, ratio for adding long-term buffers while also using hydrated lime mixed water? Thanks again very much!

I use 1tsp-1tbs per quart of casing along with hydrated lime at 1tsp. per qt. You won't see the benefits of long term buffers until 4+ flushes IME. It takes that long for them to start breaking down and acidic waste to affect the pH enough. limestone flour is calcitic limestone ground to a fine powder. It contains 97% CaCO2 with less than 2% Mg.
