Has anyone ever used

any sort of grid or wide mesh to try and control how your pinset develops? (Lay it over the top casing layer) The Dude was just thinking this could contribute to a more even pinset and possibly have other benefits.
Just an idea.

I think, if I understood it correctly, in one of the bulk straw teks it was suggested to put a piece of the light diffuser for fluorescent lights, the plastic sheet with a bunch of small (1/8 inch or so) 'diamond' shape texture on one side, on the colonizing layer both as a contam/evaporation shield and I figure as a way to form "little hills and valleys" which hyphae speaks strongly of, but in a very even and controlled manner (which, should make for even and controlled pinset, if the little hills and valleys thing is true, which it probably is coming from hyphae). Not that I'm a hyphae groupie or something, I just trust what he says generally.
Anyway then after that is done and 100% colonized add the half inch of casing and see what happens. You could cut a smaller sheet to do smaller casings than tub-sized/bulk style. Seems like it makes sense.

Seems like it makes lots of sense. It would spread out the fruits so they are all an equal distance apart from their neighbors. I just envision a much more even, much more consistent flush. You could predict where each fruit will be. The Dude is very excited to try this.

Yes I believe that is the intended effect. Assuming the hills/valleys structure makes for pinning sites, and having it very structured and even would make for very uniform pinning.
Perhaps one of the masters can answer this. I still feel like I make shit up all the time, but people tell me I'm right so I must have a handle on something like an understanding.

A good patching and blue light is all it takes to have a even heavy pinset.

Are you saying it cannot be improved?

Yep, mycology is just perfecting simle things, not making it complicated.

Anyone can tweak there skills GrOwer and take it to the next level where patching is seldom needed and pinning triggers are timed perfectly for CONSISTANTLY kickass flushes. I agree mycology is very basic and doesn't need to be made more complicated than necessary for the results that you are happy with but there is always a level above us ALWAYS!

Patching in my eyes will always be needed and is the only way to get an even flush. Thats true about the level above though, but that level involves allot more work sometimes only to end in failure. Example, a mesh is just another place for contams to live under.

I would never suggest a mesh myself because it isn't needed. Also patching is a part of the real world of mycology agreed but in time it is required much less. A higher level is only reached when you are ready thus you will succeed and not fail because if you've failed you have not reached that level of expertise! I have to mention I would use that polymesh that they use for sewer pipes for strawlogs though, as I've seen some awesome pinning action come from them

Ok it has been done as a substitute for a casing but I can't verify any results, the thing here is utilization of the proper tool, strawlogs benefit because they have too but casings can perform awesomely. Here are some pin pics on mesh.

Where is the finished product? The knots look awesome.
Thats very interesting! I envisioned a mesh with bigger gaps but I am open to any and every idea.

ALWAYS needed and the ONLY way to get an even flush? I've always thought Magash's flushes were pretty even. More then mine and I patch (but I'm new so still getting the hang of it) however he doesnt patch. Are you sure you NEED to patch?

Good point scat.... people just do what they find works for them. Some people swear by patching, other people have their things too.
I was just trying to see if anyone had experimented with this, and if so what the results were. Never was I trying to imply that the existing methods are sub par, or that this is superior.....

I couldnt disagree with you more. Patching is what people do when they fail to get it right. Not what should be done all the time. It is most definetly not the only way to get an even pin set.
Practice makes perfect !!!

Magash dosnt need to patch because his casings are so small. His pinset is far from even also, they grow in clumps. Patching is way to get a perfect pinset, not a band aid but a tried and true meathod. Your missing out if you dont patch.
