Silver Falls State Park - Oregon - TONS of quality pics
    #3136799 - 09/14/04 10:14 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

At about three this afternoon me and my girlfriend went to Silver Falls to hike and hunt some mushrooms.

56k'ers, this might take a long time.

Pictures:

The first mushrooms I came across were some Vascellum pratense, or more commonly know as the meadow puffball:

A Red-cracking bolete (Boletus chrysenteron):

Some various Mycena:

Some russula growing in a bog:

Haven't made an id on these dudes yet (lepiota?):

A dirty Lactarius and my hand:

A lepiota that reminded me of a good lookin cube . These things were everywhere:

One of the coolest finds of the day. A newt cralling on some Polypore (Birch Polypore? Piptoporus betulinus):

Another great find. I was stumbling through waist high ferns on a steep hillside when I spotted a crapload of these Honey mushrooms:

A chantrelle:

I found a good sized patch of Crested Coral (Clavulina cristata):

I think these are some type of bolete. They way they are rotting looks so cool:

Oysters :smile::

And lastly the beautiful falls:

All in all it was a good day of hunting. We found many many more but unfortunately this took me quite a while and I only used the best photos.

That is one of my favorite parks! I used to swim there when I was a child. It looks like you two had a good time!

Awesome pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great finds as well. Looks like a lot of the same things that I find here in Northern California.

Of course, we havent had any rain though. Still a few months down the line for us... :frown:

Its a FujiFilm finepix 3.2 megapixel. Nothing really special but has done a fine job for me so far.

It's only been about 4-5 days of rain/cold weather for me up her in the willamette valley, and they are starting to pop up all over the place.

I also found some of these:

Any idea what they are? It looks like a young, bruising bolete, but I cant seem to find any that match that description and have gills like that.

Spores are a purplish, pinkish, brown.

And ideas?

is this silver falls different from "gold and silver falls" near Port Orford? i think there's two different falls at this one, and a bunch of trails to hike on. didn't see many mushrooms when i was there but that was in the summer..
