coolmist problem, nasty brown stuff

To those who use/have used a coolmist humidifier. Have u ever noticed some nasty dark stuff floating around in the reservoir?? Like some sort of funk growing in there. I also noticed that the little spinning disc can be twisted and taken off. There's a hollow tube that sticks down into the water and that's where the mist travels up and out. The inside of that tube will get coated w. some sort of nasty jelly like substance that tends to block the mist from travelling through. Anyone ever experience this before?? Thanks!!

ICK! That sounds like you have some nasty stuff growing in there, buddy. If I were you, I'd look around at some older posts for info on this..
I'd clean the thing. Take it apart and wipe down everything with a bleach solution. Then I'd probably run a very light bleach solution through it to get into the nooks and crannies (of course, not while it's attached and you have things fruiting!). Or you could try adding some H202 to the water... I can imagine it would help, seeing as I have cuttings I grow in my kitchen that only have water-based roots and when the water gets a little murky and brown, I throw some H202 in there and it clears up pretty fast.
Experts, comments/corrections please! You know I haven't been around long enough.
Good luck bro!

Humidifiers are often a source of contams. You should totaly clean it out often. Using a dash of H2O2 should help also.

Cool, thanks for the info. I normally do use peroxide, I like the idea of running it w. a bleach solution. Thanks again...
