Steam sterilization
    #3134627 - 09/14/04 02:01 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

It seems to me, that when I try to steam sterilize Jars for the PF-tek, it adds too much water (steam traveling up under the tin foil and into the jars) and no mycelium colonize.

Any advice? I cannot obtain a pressure cooker.

Are there other ways for glass jars with tinfoil on them?

Also- i have been wondering. When you birth the cakes from the jars and put them in a perlite bottom terrarium, what do the cakes sit on?

1) get the jars out of the water...use a towl or a rack...if the foil is on tight no water should get in...

2)lids of jars or some foil

another possibility is that you're adding too much water to begin with. if you're gaining that much water, why don't you try lowering the water content of the original recepie you're using. I found that when I did my first PF style jars, the substrate looked fine before steaming, but was all mush when I pulled it out. I just redid the whole thing and used less water... lo an behold, my jars work great now.

Give it a try.
