Why are you a member of this forum?

I wanted to get some people's opinions on why they post in the political forum. Are you trying to change people's minds? Do you enjoy arguing and debating? Do you enjoy showing off your intelligence? Do you want to change the world? Do you want to inform people? Is political debate a form of ego masturbation for you? I think for me, it is a little of all of these things.
Whatever your reasons for posting are, do you think you have accomplished them? Or have you failed to accomplish them?

Well:
1) I really think this forum has so much to offer, I mean, people kinda laugh at me when I say I go to a political forum on a psychadelic mushroom website, but in reality, I think there is a wealth and depth of info.
2) I really like many of the posters here. I either like them for their comedic value, or for the info they bring to the table.
3) I've tried other political forums (america's debate) but it is too stuffy, I've gotten so many damn warnings from their admin.
4) I enjoy debating
5) Its better than TV.

In a manner of speaking. Not trying to convert anyone to my particular political belief system but rather to open their minds, specifically now with regard to voting for the lesser of two evils.

Definitely.

I consider it a peer-review forum.

I'm still young, still forming political opinions. For me, nothing is cooler than someone debating me well and being able to change my mind. I think a lot of people think this board kinda sucks cause the majority of the people are too far left. But they don't realize how stronlgly Neocons fight back. If people like luvdem and zappa weren't here, this board would just turn into the forums on Moby's website.

Also because:: I rarely grow shrooms. They don't grow where I live. Plain shrooms taste gross. I don't have any general questions. Everyone in S&P is on a mindfuck to nowhere. I don't do other drugs anymore. I don't know what an enthnobotanical garden is, but it sounds gay. I'm not a hippie. I can only stand so many poop jokes. If I want to sell and buy things online I'm not gonna do it with random stoners. I feel safe and secure as is. I don't have an ex girlfriend stuck in my head. There aren't enough people in Music Art and Lit. I eat at campus cafeterias. I rarely travel anymore. I'm not a nerd. I tremble beneath the admins. I've read the FAQs. The Shroomery has a News Service??? Why is there a separate forum for polls?

We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I don't post much, because usually I can't say what I really want to typing it out. I do much better in front of an audience with instant communication back and forth.
I firmly believe that what makes this forum great is taht a lot of people who post here use or have used drugs in the past and I believe that some drugs are perfectly good. Mainly the plant entheogens.
Here, I can say anything I want, usually with the drug usage talk involved and everyone knows what I mean. I think you can't have a truly open mind unless your mind has been opened.
I wish I could change the world, but it's too big and too many people don't have an open mind. Baby steps, but the world is moving to fast for baby steps. Its one small step for man, one long sprint for mankind. And that sprint seems like its coming to end really quick.

#1 it's not about accomplishing or failing
It's not so much as changing people's minds. This is the main problem that i have with a lot (but not always, and not limited to) of libertarians and christian evanglist types. It's about discussion and learning from one another, this happens through debate and taking a stance. I hope that someone learns something from me, and that i learn from someone else as well. To expand on education... merely reading an article or watching a news cast doesn't do shit for you. Discussing it, debating it, hearing the rebuttals, taking a stance and defending it.. knowning when you've been had, and when you've "won" so to speak i think great enhances your political education, which i think has the upmost importance. This is the world in which we live, why would i want to be educated about it? Why would i want others not to be as well?
I also post because its enjoyable. There are times for everyone that discussing such things are an "ego masturbation" i think. Do i want to change the world? Depends on what you mean by that sentence, we're changing the world everyday, whether through our action or inaction.
I would like to get more people excited about politics, i would like to influence more people to vote and to care far more than i really wish to push a political stance.
But yeah.. I kinda want to move away from talking politics mainly on drug boards. I find drug boards normally have far too much ofa liberal or libertarian bias to them within the community. And i love hearing those 2 stances as i relate much more, but i hate feeling like i'm in a group preaching to the choir. Hence i started my own board (www.currentevents.tk or just see the sig) and hopefully that'll get going. I'd like to see a more wide range of opinion that merely that which spews out of the drug communities. I also used to post about politics on a Mazda board a while back.. and lets face it.. most car/auto enthusiasts are conservative and/or right wing (not mutually exlcusive). So i hope that once my board gets up and running there will be more "fair game" so to speak.

I like this place. The PAL is my home at the Shrommery. I like libertarians and you get a full spectrum of opinion here. Sometimes that spectrum goes off on tangets and it can get looney. But you can dick around a bit here and have a good time as long as your not hatefull and attacking someone personally.
I think the mods do a great job. I like the number of diverse topics. One of the things that I find most impressive are some of the links that posters provide. You can get a lot of interesting information on this board. So much of our mainstream media culture is all about having the masses drink from the same well. That doesn't happen here.
I like this place. As for the ego question, anyone who posts under the moniker Jesus Christ probably has some sort of ego related problem. But hey, at least I am not afflicted with the bevy of problems related to low self esteem.
