hi,

yesterday I have found a brown capped mushroom in a field close to the border of some shrubs.
First I thought that it were Lyophyllum decastes but when I took a spore print I realized that it must be something else.
Has some pro got an idea what that could be ?

Here are the pics:

Given the spore print color (at least as it appears on my monitor), those should be Cortinarius. But I don't see any trace of a cortina on the stems. The general appearance of the mushrooms also suggests Entoloma, but the spore print color appears wrong (again, on my monitor). Is it possible that the photo of the spore print appears more rust colored than it actually is?

Happy mushrooming!

Yeah, that is quite possible. I would say it is more a reddish/pinkish brown then a rusty brown.
But certainly the color is a vivid and not a dull or dark brown ( difficult to describe ... )
Maybe there is too much red in the picture of the spore print.
I have tried to adjust the color of the white paper in the background to mid gray cause first it was much too blue.
And when I compared the result on my monitor with the original the difference was not too big.
But as you mentioned - all the monitors are a bit different even when calibrated (and mine is not ...)

Interesting find.
I personally would have just passed them as Corts,
-and would have assumed them to be inedible.

Mushrooms Demystified says they are edible,
but also notes some people might get sick from them.

toxic mans advice is best as usual.

If the spore print is more of a pinkish, then they are Entolomas, which they look like to me anyway. Other than one distinctive species, all Entolomas should be considered very poisonous.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks for your help.
I just thought that it might be Lyophyllum decastes since the color of the cap looks very similar.
But the spore print ...
