Raise your humidity, keep it dark, wait a little longer. Then again, that's just my opinion on the whole situation.

You're trying to pin your casing, right? You should really go read up on pinning in the FAQs, I do believe the information is there.
Silven, I'm sorry to say you gave some bad advice. If this person is trying to pin, they don't want to keep it dark. One of the triggers for pinning in Ps. Cubensis is light, you are growing cubies, right? You might also consider a cold shock, keeping the humidity high, and after the cold shock, keeping the casing at mid 70's. I'm sure Hyphae could help with this, he is really good when it comes to pinning.
Someone else, please chime in. I'm not very experienced at all, just putting in my $.02
Good luck!

I think he is saying hes incubating his casing but its taking forever for the myc to break threw the top of the casing. Maybe raise your temps a lil? Before i make a casing i give the myc a light mist before i put on the top casing layer, seems to speed things up for some reason. But then again this is only what works for me.

cold shock and make sure there are plenty of troughs and velleys in the surface since ur only using vermiculite. patch, make sure its like that, and incubate till u see a few bits poking through, then cold shock overnight, then fruit, and give light with sum fanning, and ull hav urself sum nice mushrooms

Bad advice. "troughs and velleys" will only make your mycelium come up uneven and result in uneven pinning or force you to do a lot more patching work.

Mountain and valleys means on a very small scale and will only benefit. We are talking not more than "1/4" max. difference from the valleys to the peaks, we are also talking all valleys colonizing evenly which is optimum for massive pinsets! This is called the microclimate for those who do not know. GL guys

I perfer to have the entire surface pin, rather than just the valleys. I think I saw a growlog where someone experimented with this, it didn't seem to work very well. He concluded that it although it may have helped some areas pin better, it wasted too much surface space and resulted in decreased yeilds.
I'll look for the link, but it was a long time ago.
Also if you want pits and peaks, why not use coarser vermiculite? From what I've read most people say that finer verm is better for casings, while coarse is good for cakes. I've never had the option of different verm grades(not available), so I don't know.

depending on what your next step is there is alot of bad advice... i think alot of people are confused and still learning themselves, it looks like you have a casing that has already been incubating, then you added your top layer of verm and began incubating again... im guessing this is your first grow so you may not have been colonized enough on top before adding the top layer, and also, maybe you added abit too thick of a top layer... it is very easy to add too much when trying to get even mycelium growth considering you may have put the exact same amount on uncolonized portions as fully colonized portions of your casing... a small sprinkle of moist verm here and there is sometimes all that is needed... the key to adding the top layer is to add just enough to trick the rest of mycelium to catch up with the rest of growth... i hope this helps...

Fine verm only works good in the PF tek as the protective layer. Course verm is what you want for the best casing when using verm alone. You need to realize the transitional phase from vegetative to generative growth I do very much know what I'm talking about here FF, Maybe I'm not explaining this in a way you can understand? THE VALLEYS LOOK LIKE THIS!
AND THEY ARE VERY BENEFICIAL!
This is the result.
You'll get it it's just gonna take a little time.

I know you do. I've seen many of your very awesome pics. I've also seen success like that before without valleys. Your pic looks like some pretty small valleys anyway, so I suppose it couldn't hurt too much.
So do you just skip patching the first mycelium that comes up?

I patch early breakthroughs on aggresive strains otherwise they come thorough pretty evenly and that time they're in the fruiting chamber and already knotting nicely! Were talking a nice texture to the surface is all really FF. GL
