What's the spiritual stance of the Church? What Spiritual values and beliefs particularly attract you to this religious group?

Just sign onto the Native American Church, the law allows them to take all people now...not just Native Americans. They are much more organized than Peyote Way and they are a sanctioned church.

www.peyoteway.org i've been reading and practicing shamanism for 4 years now and i believe joining this church would give me more insight towards the practice of shamanism.i prefer only the spiritual good that comes from entheogens and this seems to be the main purpose of this church.the NAC has intergrated peyote and christianity and in the last 100years they changed most of the old peyote ceremonys, that thier grandfathers conducted ,to be more christian friendly so the white man would allow them to continue the use of peyote.

thats really sad, so is the NAC partly (genuinely) christian or are their christian parts primarily a tool to maintain peyote legality?

They have integrated a Christian and shamanic viewpoint. They use the Bible, but only the book of John. They are primarily a shamanic based religion.

Peyote Way seems like a fine organization, but they they seem to have a leader/follower thing going on, so it doesn't really appeal to me.

i sure some still practice the old ways (true red road)but in the book PEYOTE RELIGION the author describes the NAC change to christianity was because the missionaries could show the indians proof that there was only one god,his son jesus, and his mother mary in the holy bible! so they pretty much brainwashed them in believing if they didnt believe in 1 god, they would go to hell and burn!im not sure ,but i think many are starting to follow the old ways, without christianity ,and the belief of many great spirits.

hope you're right skullfarmer. the native americans have had enough taken from them... i wonder what would have happened if Christopher Columbus' ship had sunk before it arrived in the 'New' World? I imagine another christian tyrant would have succeeded in the making the journey shortly after.

leader/ follower thing? i wouldn't have a problem with that.your gonna find that everywhere you go.i'm 1/16 native american but you could't tell by looking at me.i wouldn't want to try to join a religion where almost everyone questioned my reasons for joining.i would rather join a religion where everyone knows the reason and accepts me 100%.i look foward to joining, staying my 3 days and doing a spirit walk. i know a few native americans where i live and i go to thier sweat lodge when work permits and even though i'm accepted there buy most, some think they are more pure and are superior to me.i would be afraid of this happening at the NAC.

It amazes me that in the surroundings you mentioned egos still come into play. I have never participated in a pure Native American ritual, but I imagine that there are assholes everywhere. I'm one.

very interesting, ill definetly check it out
Where i live aboriginal alcoholism is an epedemic, and one way the government has dealt with it is by legalizing peyote for aboriginal organizations. The results have been very positive, as the drug gives an experience to these youths that provides some meaning and cultural grounding for them. I think its great, and now that i hear its open to all races ill definetly check it out,
its always an akward position being a north american caucasian that is genuinely interested in shamanism.

You guys might want to note that true Shamanism involves using shamanic practice to make your own discoveries about the spirit and using those ideas the heal the self and others. Attending one of these churches will give you access to a shaman whom you can converse with, but that will only take you to the head of the trail. Walking the trail is done alone. Though being able to speak with a true shaman is an invaluable experience assuming he is not a fraud trying to get money.

I know this is an old post... but I wonder if someone knows whether the Native American Church accepts only people from the US or from other countries as well? And if the latter is true, does one have to become an American citizen before joining?
I read a bit from their website (www.nativeamericanchurch.com) but could not find any information about joining.
