Casing not colonizing
    #3128363 - 09/13/04 02:15 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Its been over a week now since I just cased a rubbermaid container with about 4in of straw substrate with a 1 in layer of 50peat/50verm. My casing layer doesn't seem to be colonizing though. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is, any ideas?

whats your temps? Last time i used a 1" casing the layer did not colonize the top 1/2" and the fruits came up with the cap already spreading open and not as pins. I don't use that big of a layer anymore and it seems to work a lot better

Even though you have used 4:1, because its a thick layer then you should expect to wait a while. A week doesn't sound like too long to wait. Upping the temp will help though as has been said.
