I like to go up the jars about 1/4 way. Now I don't know about the lever, sounds like a older modle cause I believe the new ones use the weight. Either that or they changed to the lever since I got mine which could have happned too.

the lever is an overpressure valve, it takes the place of the weight, you really only have one choice of pressure/temp with it and thats 15psi
as magash saud, add water to 1/4 of the way up the jars (with rack under them), lift the lever and turn the burner on under the PC, place the jars on the rack, stacking if needed. Place the lid on and screw the clamps down 2 at a time using the nuts on opposing sides, try to keep the top level to the base... in about 20-30 minutes you should see steam coming from the valve, flip the lever down and wait for the pressure to climb to 15psi, once it reaches that level turn down the heat to about medium and then adjust as needed to keep it at 15psi
hint: a little vaseline along the lip of the lid helps maintain a good seal

I swear by mine, I have a 921 and a 925X... both are top notch, unlike other PCs you will never have a problem with finding replacement parts, the fact that they are at least 3/8" thick on the sides and 3/4" on the bottom means you wont be wearing it out anytime soon...

Whoa how about: this thing?
I see it only does up to 8 psi, and has a 60 minute timer... but it looks like the kind of timer you could roll to 60, then when it's at 30 spin it back to 60, without interrupting anything (to get a timed hour and a half at 8psi). And all this hugeness of equipment (it looks cool though!) could be less than a hundred bux? Wow.
