Just watched this movie. And it wasnt what I expected. It was so much more. The end left me in tears. What made me sad was not the movie, though, it was the apparent lack of understanding the majortity of other people displayed. The message resounded in my heart after I left the theater. The message? Surrender.

Absolutely beautiful and moving movie, though you must watch it with an open mind. I'm curious has anyone else seen it, and if so what they thought of it?

Heh, I went sober if that aides your decision  Lots of vivid color, and smooth as silk scenes, but its subtitled in English. It might be kind of hard to read and understand the movie if you're too busy looking at the scenes.

I didn't see it yet... at first I wrote it off as another "Jet Li kicks everyone's ass and that's about it for the plotline" movies... but then I heard about Quentin Tarantino's involvement, so I was second-guessing.

I'll probably still wait for video, though.. we'll see I s'pose.

I read that Tarantino just helped to bring the movie over to the States. He wasn't involved in any part of the writing or production.

I loved the movie and the soundtrack. I think, it's a masterpiece of artwork.
For me the essence was: If you are a ruler and act in power, the means of love are limited. (I don't know, if I believe this, or if it's true only in ancient china, but it's worth thinking about)

I think it's good to see sober first, as the storyline is a bit of shifted.

(I've seen it about 10 times now )

Enjoy the colors !

Actually very little ass kicking done by jet li. and quentin only attached his name to bolster US interest.

as for the movie itself.
Well, the beginning was slow, and I'm not a big fan of the "everyone can float" kind of fight sequences. It did get better, but it was more an excersize in cinematography than anything else. I'll watch it under the influece some time, looks good for that, but as it stands, kinda boring sober. Especially the Nameless vs. Sky fight. First part didn't even have music, and the flow was choppy at points.

All in all, nothing special, and the entire movie really doesn't do much progression. It's just the recanting of various explanations for some big conspiracy that ends up going no where.
POTENTIAL SPOILER || AVERT YOUR EYES
In the end, everyone who died pretty much did so needlessly.

The movie was, as said above, was a masterful art piece. Art does not have to have literal intention to portray a powerful message. If you go expecting, you will lose focus of its meaning. The flow was pure GENIUS, and as for the fighting just pretend them to be gods in action  Every color, every landscape, even their names had meaning.

Its very important to understand nobody died for nothing (with the exception of maybe one, she caved in on her own selfishness), in fact I'd go as far to say they died for a very powerful cause. Not the political cause, no... it transcended politics.

However, I do understand that its a little hard to understand. Most of the people in the theater I went to ended up laughing at parts of the movie because it deviated so much from the norm that it was hard to understand.
