flowhood, wood framed filter a prob?
    #3122886 - 09/11/04 04:06 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

the wood frame on my hepa filter has me wary. what is the standard operating procedure when using a wood framed filter so that one does not have to worry about the frame harboring mold/bact spores?

Don't let it get wet obviously. Other than that, a wooden particle framed filter is pretty much still standard (along with aluminum framed filters).

get a can of thompsons water seal. mask off the hepa filter part so you don't get any water seal into your filter( which would seal it and make it useless) and apply the waterseal with a brush to the exposed wood... I treated a sheet of plywood with this stuff and left it out in the rain for three days on a pair of sawhorses... it didn't warp in the slightest.

sealing the wood is out of the question for me, i figured it couldnt be that bad or else wood frames wouldnt be used in the first place. ill prob just run it a little longer every time before using it just to be safe.

anyone out there got a wood framed filter that can give a testamonial?
