Air tight?

One quick question. My terrarium is a rubermaid container with a cardboard top wrapped in sarran wrap. I'm using the perlite method. My question is does the terrarium have to be airtight? If so, any Ideas on how I can make it so with using large heavy object to weigh it down? Also how many times do I need to air it out a day? Thanks in advance.

i don't think it has to. but you need that humidity on the inside, not in your room... you can just forget the cardboard you have, and take a large sheet of transparent plastic, adjust it to the size of your rubbermaid container's mouth. make it bigger though. then take one long elastic rubber string (you use them to hold up your pants). cover the container tightly with the sheet of plastic, leaving some of it to drop down the sides. then take your rubber thing, and hold the sheet with it to the sides of the terrarium. and there you are. fan 2-3 times a day, and you'll be fine.

and that I was just doing what was necessary to stay comfortable while I waited to die...

it should be pretty airtigh, just toss a book on each corner, oh and you can buy plexiglass cheap and cut to any size at a local hardware store
