Please tell me it's a liberty cap
    #3125098 - 09/12/04 05:18 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Sorry I'm too lazy to take measurements and such to give you guys a description but I found it in some grass near where there was just a fire on a golfcourse that closed a few years ago. If you guys think they might be semilanceata I'll go make a description:

Doesn't look like psilocybe semilanceata to me. I see no nipple and the gill colour is wrong.

Its a little early yet dude but were on the CUSP. Heres the golden rule for field picking; if you see grasshopers then your to early....right when when the grasshopers disappear (to cold for them) then the field Psilocybes will be fruiting.

Its alittle bit hard to tell from that picture but at first glance would say you have a winner. (I've picked thousands of libs and there are alot of different shapes and sizes.) Is the stem also bruising blue at the base? It seems so from the picture.

The darker striated margin is also a good indicator for semilanceata.

hmm - if it was season what would you think? There were only about 4 of these mushrooms growing near each other and the field has no grasshoppers (then again it never does).

As far as I know the cap does have a nipple - try taking a closer look at the picture.
What made me most curious was the nipple, striated cap, and long wavy white stem which went a dark color after I wrapped it around my finger and left it on my desk.

What was absent that put me off was a lack of stickiness to the cap.

I really wish Mushroom John would come in here

It is s a little hard to tell, a few more pictures would have helped. It looks like a Psilocybe but i could be wrong.

However, Liberty caps are beginning to show up in some areas of the PNW.

AS are Baeocystis and Stuntzii and fiemtarias.

More images oof specimesn wopuld help,

ALso opening those kind of image URL's generally cause stupid spyeware warning pop-up boxes to jam my screen over and over. I uisually do not open them up . N But since I am on someone elses computer I opened it to look.
