Maine mushrooms that blue.....
    #3124032 - 09/12/04 12:25 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I found these all over in Maine, but haven't tried any yet. I haven't seen a picture of any on here that quite match it.
Cap: Brown and smooth
Gills: Yellow and spongy
Stem: White (haven't checked to see if they're hollow)
Season: Sep-Dec

I basiclly just started going around cracking every mushroom I saw until I ran across this species. It blues like ink where ever you break it. When you press on the spongy underside of the cap it's bluish-green because of the yellow color. The only thing that makes me a little suspicious is that the size of the cap is usually around 3-4 inches wide, which seems a little big for most. However, I've never seen a really big one to know that it's junk for sure.
Another question I had is do you need to dry it out to get the effects?

Eww.....if you look at the underside of that Admiral Bolete, that's what the undersides of the ones I found look like.

These are boletes. They are not active and are possibly poisonous.
In general blue bruising boletes, especially on the east coast should be avoided, however, there are a few edible species which blue.
Still none are active.

Peace - @cro

Probably a type of bolete, certainly not a psilocybe and or active mushroom. Even though this is my first post, I have cruised this board (and hunted mush) for quite a while, and these guys definitely know their shrooms. you should surely wait for a positive ID before you eat any mushroom that you are picking.

Ahhh yes, I looked at other pictures once you said they were Boletes and that looks to be what they are. Thnx alot! Another interesting species I found were those bright purple ones. I already found those and they are not active.....even though when you look at one you think you hit the jack-pot lol! http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/id_guide/cortinariales/cortinarius_violaceus.htm

Thnx again for the ID!
