Good idea/Bad idea? Air exchance w/ electric fan

Instead of wafting air through my aquariums with an old magazine, is it safe and efective to just use a small electric fan, holding it so it sucks air up out of the aquarium for 10-15 seconds? I don't really see how it could hurt. Just wondering if this causes more contamination problems than the wafting method.

Probably just fine. Especially if you're using it to draw air out.

I would use a filter on the intake.

Iv'e tried that, with the fan just circulating the air already in the chamber, and it dropped my humidty by half.
If you blow the air out, it will really kill your humidity.

I think he just meant to use it like a 'vacuum' sorta just for when it's time to fan, not constantly or even on a timer or anything. And of course he knows to spray the walls and such (but not cakes) to replace the humidity after fanning out.
In which case, my answer stands. Should work fine. Let us know if it does.

If that's the case and you want to do it anyways, misting will help bring your humidity back up. Just be sure to do it right, IE not directly onto cakes/casings, but rather on walls and such.

I learned very quickly that a battery operated fan was much easier than manual fanning, also don't worry about humidity it will raise quickly enough on it's own although I always give perlite tubs a quick mist after each fanning anyway just out of habit and results.

True, I guess I misunderstood him. I had my fan on for about 12 hours on/12 hours off.

Misting doesn't help. I misted the hell out of my chamber, and with the fan on, my humidity still fell by half. But as stated above, if you just turn it on once or twice a day for a little bit, then mist afterward, it should be fine.
