How do I become a Shroomery mod? Is it a job or volunteer?

They ask you if you want the position. And they never let people who ask to be mods become mods.

There are some cultivation mods with only around 1000 posts.

Actually it's a very complex ritual involving tests of endurance and character, a grueling and arduous 12 week ordeal that molds you into what a mod should be... i almost completed the course, but i failed the final test, the Pit of Greed, while battling my own desire to make a buck i faltered and fell in, so now I am doomed to forever be only a sponsor and never a mod...

BTW, this all is tyop secret but don't let the mods know i told ya, or very bad things could happen... oh no... here comes papaver.... HIDE ME!!!!

Sometimes, the Shroomery actively recruits new mods. They did this in a couple of forums last year... but usually, the mods just pick someone they want to work with, and hold a vote. After a week or two of voting and discussion, a new mod is born.

It is weird, once you become a mod, you can read what everybody said about you in the voting thread.

Just be a helpful poster and let your desire to mod become known. Good posters tend to get modded... if they want it.

Let me fix that for you.

Popular posters tend to get modded.

To be more precise, posters who are popular with the admins and mods are modded.

And I've never seen any whining about you. Perhaps you're self perceived lack of popularity is all in your head?

Rono twice offered me modship in the PAL forum, but apparently he was outvoted. In retrospect, I'm kind of glad.

I'm sure many have had it offered by a mod or two.

Seems kind of tacky to mention it though.

I only mentioned it because Strumpling asked if I had been a mod. If you didn't notice, I was replying to him.

A simple no would have sufficed without the tackiness.

> To be more precise, posters who are popular with the admins and mods are modded.

Popularity isn't what we look for in a mod.

First, a position has to open up. We try to fill open positions with current moderators rather than bring in new ones. If none of the current moderators want to fill the gap, we ask the moderators for recommendations. Usually we try to fill the gap with somebody that often posts in the forum. After two or three names are nominated, both the admin and moderators discuss them for a few days then vote yes or no.

There have been a few times when we have lost a lot of moderators in a short time. When this happens, we will make posts in the needy forums asking for volunteers.

If you have an interest in modding a forum, let the mods of that forum know. They can't nominate you if they don't know that you are interested. At the same time, we don't bring in new moderators very often, so be patient.
