Too early to fruit?
    #3123447 - 09/11/04 09:21 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I think I mighta put my casings out too early to fruit.. the colonization on the top has come to a complete stop and about 25% of the surface is colonized.. is this bad?

yeah that should do it. If you spray the surface verm too much you can cause problems though, stick to injecting. The verm on top should be damp but not insanely soaked.

On really screwed ones (overlay or near overlay) you could remove the top layer of verm and 'scratch' the surface of the colonized layer all over with a sterile fork (lightly, you don't need to rip it up much just break the 'skin'), then flood it and let it sit for a while (hours) and then drain off whatever is left over, and then put a fresh layer of damp verm on top again. Cover with foil or saran wrap and incubate (or just let it sit) for a day or two, and then go back to fruiting.

But the more you goof with it the more chances for contams, especially if you end up with too much water on it.
