I was just woundering if thats enough watts and if so is 6 hours a day a proper amount? Much oblige to any info! :wink:

Yes, plenty. You may have to balance the timing so that the temps don't get too high though, with an incandescent bulb since they take 25 watts of electricity and expend like half that into heat and the rest into actual light. Unless the light is outside your chamber then it doesn't matter much.

In other words 12/12 is probably best but if that makes too much heat then it's worse in the grand balance of things, and you might be better off with 6/18 like you were thinking. Or switch to another source which makes little heat like LEDs or something, or put the light outside the chamber.

heres what afoaf uses...



Its just two nightlights ziptied to the underside of the lid of the terrarium. He only puts his on 4 hours a day and that has worked fine for a very long time.

That's pretty cool, aqua! Good thinkin. Those are only like 7.5 watt bulbs so they probably make very little heat and plenty of light for a bin that size.

Data from light experiments suggest that less than 1 watt of light is required and that the light reaction will be (or at least can be) saturated in a very short period of time.
