amanita muscaria?
    #3123323 - 09/11/04 06:46 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

went out on one of my usual early walks to check some spots for liberty caps today here in uk still seems a little warm and nothing much about went for a walk in some woods next to the common land i was on and found these red capped shrooms anyway i picked them and brought them home to photograph

they where found under an oak tree in some old woodland here in north uk

gills are white and attached

caps varying in size from 1 inch to about 5 inch

stems varying in length from about the same size as the cap to slightly longer thick stems feel sturdy to the touch when cut in half they have a few hollows running up the centre

cap is conical to convex shroom to shroom, colour red outside black middles no veil remaining dry texture (it was sunny when i was out)

in the process of taking a spore print will update when done

any info would be welcomed i've seen them fresh round there a couple of times in the past these stood out to me as odd but the blacking and lack of veil made me unsure any info on what they might be would also be welcomed cheers and good look with your hunts

Sounds more like a Russula to me. More details about the stem might help, does it fall apart easy?

Definitely not an Amanita. Those are Russulas.

Happy mushrooming!

I find russulas all over the place in the woods in my backyard. They are probibly the type that i find most often. I have seen aqua-green, purple, white, red and brown colored ones, very neat looking.

yes but russula's dont have a volva or a veil, and amanita's do, by definition!

nice finds though!
