I have some pint jars that are about 40% done or so and they appear to have some really light brown spots in them, look kinda like a gold flake. I have some jars almost done colonizing in a different place and I never saw this on them. Any help would be appreciated.
No, it is alot lighter and it's in the mycelium. I just flipped them over as there seems to be a moisture on the sides, more so than my other jars that don't have the light brown spots (not quite goldish, that was a bad description).
If the mycelium broke apart a chunk of verm, then it could be a single layer of mica, which would be shiny, brownish tan, and nearly transparent. Thus, suspended in pure white mycelium it would look very light compared to 'normal' verm color. That's what it sounds like to me.
But take kilgore_trout's suggestions also, because it's better safe than sorry.
