Try looking for vermiculite instead, Gardening ,hardware, plant stores should sell something in regards to compost (Never Use Dirt of any kind ever) also look on line the stuff is really cheap and having it sent shouldnt take long , but its hard to believe that in france they dont have Vermiculite ,but you would know , hope this helps a bit and good growing.

Hi!! Well, I have got vermiculite, I use it for the PF tek. I was planning to use the perlite for humidification, and someone told me that using vermiculite for humidification only makes a scoshy mess...

So its used jsut like perlite huh? That's cool, I hadn't heard much about this lava rock stuff...I'll have to check it out. Do you really feel it's a better solution than perlite?

If you feel like going to A-dam, they have mushroom shops and museums there. I know they did have everything you could need at these shops, I'm sure they still do. I don't know what part of France you live in, but this might also be an idea.

i'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. If you use lava rock and it works, great, but the thing with lava rock is it is VERY pourous. I used to work at a garden center/nursery and we sold filter kits for ponds called "bio filters" which basically consisted of a tub filled with lava rock that forced the water up through lava rocks and then out a waterfall. The idea was, that with lava rock being so pourous, the pores serve as appartment complexes for bacteria . The bacteria were supposed to help keep down the algae and other crap in the pond. Now i know you wouldnt have the rock constantly submerged, but it is just my guess that that will make it just a lil more like club med for all yer bacteria and youll have problems with contams.

I understand that, and like i said if it works, it works, i'd just be a lil more worried about contams and clean my lava rock more than I would my perlite

Sorry, A-dam stands for Amsterdam, we always called it a-dam, it was just form of habit to say that, very sorry for any confusion that I caused. I suppose this is not really a plausible idea for you if you live in southern France though, sorry.
