Sterilized and inoculated 5days after substrate prep. Help

Hello good folks,
Just moved to nyc and cannot seem to find anyone selling shrooms so have decided to become a second time grower. Due to a demanding work schedule I wasn't able to sterilize and inoculate so I had to let my substrate filled jars sit for a week (kept them in a cool place with foil over lid holes). when inoculating today i noticed a rancid odor from them when I took the foil off the top. Is that a problem or sign of contamination? or normal cause I let the jars sit for a while? Really appreciate your wisdom. Thanks to the people who've put the site together! :smile:

i did the same thing, i nocked them up and they worked fine. Just keep rollin with it, they should be fine as long as you Pc'd them.

You could probably re-PC them if you want to be sure. Generally any 'funky' smell means bacteria. Also it wasn't clear if you PC'ed them at all, but I assume you meant you PC'd then let them chill for a while. Or let them sit a while and then PC'd. The latter case would be best and would be fine most likely.

I sterilized them by pressure cooking them yesterday and inoculated them today(5 days after preparing the substrate). will keep my fingers crossed! thanks for the thoughts
