A teacher is quoted as saying that they dont want to rehash the actual 9/11 attacks, calling it "wallowing". Instead, they are going to talk with the kids about how the President is using 9/11 to get re-elected.
Ah, San Francisco. Gotta love the Left coast.

Cool! opening the childrens eyes to the fact that those in power are likely to callously manipulate any given situation to their own advantage sounds like a good idea to me.

For what it's worth, I've posted here on several occasions some of the lunacies of Dominican politics, specifically those of the president who just got voted out of office in May. However, dolt that he was, his policies were neither right wing nor Christian. Nor are the policies of our new president.
I ask again, what does the fact that I don't live in the US have to do with teachers in San Francisco calculatedly using 9/11 to push their Leftist agenda on their students?
Give us at least some kind of tenuous connection, here.

Yeah, teachers need to stay away from teaching politics, unless its relevant to the course being taught.
That said,I'm sure for every teacher on the left like that, there is one on the right rambling about how if Bush doesn't get reelected, another event like 9/11 will happen.
In any case,it's really not that big a deal...Teachers are people too and sometimes they will express their opinions, whether its apropriate or not.

Preachers are not teachers and can say anything they want to their flocks. Public school teachers should be much more circumspect with their in classroom proseletyzing.

Agreed, they do nothing to advance knowledge, in my opinion, just the advancement of ignorace, but hey, whatever, this is not a theological debate.

Not if they want to retain their "tax free" status they can't.

Why, its not like 5th graders will vote bush out of office. What are you affraid of, the kids are going to go home and change their parents' minds?

The parents are not very happy about teachers reaching outside of their appointed task. They are hired to do one thing and it is NOT to proseletyze. They can do what they want outside the school, but within the school the need to attend to what they were hired to do. Afraid??? No, I'm paying the bill, it's my kid, and I have the right to tell MY employee what he should or should not be doing on MY time.
As far as I know, the content of what they tell their flocks has no impact on their tax status

Once again, I fail to see how Bush talking about the attacks and his response to them is either exploitation or manipulation. It is certainly a germane subject in an election about how people want their next president to respond to this kind of stuff and his response is part of his resume for his job interview. Exploitation my ass. I object to the teachers describing it as exploitation. THAT is THEIR politicizing of the issue. By the way, Bush is in the business of politics. That is what presidents do. Teachers, on the other hand are NOT. They need to stick to their job descriptions. As far as I'm concerned he can mention it 10 million times until certain nitwits become aware that it is THE issue in this election.

So you don?t think that there?s any point at all in which Bush "mentioning" 9-11 can be considered exploitation.

No, if the preacher specifically endorses a candidate, they CAN loose their tax free status, I know this for a fact, I'll go onto google and find the law if you want me to.

You have WAY too much trust in these people. They?re bringing up 9-11 for three reasons as I see it.....
1) To envoke an emotional response from people.
2) To cloud your judgement with fear.
3) To remind everyone of the short period of time when everyone stood behind Bush.
Bush and Co. might as well dig up the bodies of the victims and suck their blood.

To Skikid16: as an atheist it pisses me off to no end that these shamans have ANY kind of special status.
To Learyfan: I think it is a bona fide item on their resume for this particular job. If somehow he had botched it, do you not think it would be appropriate for his opponent to call attention to it???? You probably think he did botch it. But your position is not shared by many and this job interview is a popularity contest (duh). The fucking teachers (to get back to the matter at hand) should not be proseletyzing. It is not what they were paid to do. They can saying anything they want, OFF PAYROLL.

If you are so dense that you don't understand the entirely legit reason that he was truely elected president of the US, then you probably aren't of the level that is welcome around here. Google the phrase
"democracy versus constitutionally limited republic" and read for about three days.

No quite. The SC merely upheld the rules which were already in place before the election.

Haha good point.
Do any Americans here ever recall being taught that Canadians once burned down the White House?
I wish I could go back to my graduation year in high school to my last history class, where the teacher was an avowed Zionist.. there used to be debates about Israel and the Arabs, but I had not converted to Islam yet and knew nothing about the conflict.
