fruiting chamber ?
    #3121838 - 09/11/04 10:25 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

What's the ideal temp. for a fruiting chamber for casings?
I'm switching from cakes to casings.
Also, from the 50/50 tek, I was going to use this receipe:
15 1/2 cups vermiculite
15 1/2 cups peat moss
4 1/2 cups crushed oyster shell
1.2 cups of hydrated lime
15 cups of distilled water (1 cup short of a gallon of bottled water) 16 cups = 1 gallon

I'm concerned that the lime will burn or prohibit myc growth. Anyone have advice on this?

Ideal fruiting temperature for cubies is 75F.

1.2 cups of hydrated lime to ~30 cups other stuff seems like a lot, but it depends on the pH of your lime.  Try to get a pH meter (expensive) or litmus paper (cheap) to measure the pH.  That way there's no guessing.  The ideal pH for cubies is 6.8 to 7.2.
