Psst...hey.....how are ya? I'm doing well.
i've noticed lately that the majority of people i run into on a daily basis have some problems. They don't look happy....in fact they look over worked, anxious, and worn out.
So i decided to revive an old tradition of mine.....giving of random roses.
i buy some roses, usually 3 or 4, keep one for myself, and then carry the others around whneever i'm going somewhere. When i see someone that looks down, i give them a rose.
You'd be amazed at how much such a small gesture can do for a persons outlook. I mean, kindness from a stranger is a great thing, if forgettable....but when you give someone anything, it's remembered for at lesast he rest of the day......usually far beyond the life of the flower.
Just one of my efforts to make the world a slightly better place.....
Because the only thing you can really accomplish each day is making someone smile.
The rest just dissapears......but spreading joy keeps going forever.

heh, reminds me of not too long ago when the place that currently employs my employer gave everyone onsite rather nice hats that they normally sell for ~$35 each (not cheaply made at all). the particular employer being one that most anyone in my area would gladly wear their hat.
i, being the distributor, ended up with 3 extra.
i did exactly what you describe with them. the best was giving it to a kid in a grocery parking lot whose mom looked pretty stressed. it made both their days.
it has the added benefit of making yourself feel really good too.
note, i could have easily sold them for profit so there was lost opportunity cost. i jut know somebody would have to point out it didn't really cost me anything.

Depends on the guy. I don't usually give them to guys, due to the negative connotations....
But when i do, they're usually happy.

I once gave my shoes to a homeless man at a gas station, it was pretty cool. The guy was obviously in for it bad on drugs or alcohol, but the pure joy and happiness I saw in him then was unforgettable. I enjoy just doing little things for people all the time. Makes me feel good and has made some great buddies.

I used to do this, but with doughnuts. ;D
I'd get a dozen doughnuts, and go for a walk through town, anyone that looked stressed out or tired got one.

my friend and I did that once a long time ago. We didn't use roses though...some other flowers. To be honest with you, though, most people wouldn't even accept them. Goes to show you what assholes people in DC are.

hell, ever tried to give away dollar bills?
i tried this on acid once. me and buddies were cruising down broadway during a busy weekend in nashville (riverfest). i would hold a bill out the window and my buddy would call out, "hey, anybody want a free dollar?". the vast majority of people would look at you like you were entirely insane (not too far fetched considering). the occasional genius would simply take the bill.
of course if someone who was staring at you like you were a raving lunatic actually saw someone get the cash they immediately went into greed mode and ran over begging for their rightfully earned cash. those losers got laffed at and derided.
i don't think i could actually do this w/o being altered.
