Gymnopilus spectabilis?

Hi, and pardon me for barging in like this.  Mainly I'm a lurker, only signed up a few days ago.  I found these mushrooms in my backyard and after some research I believe they're  gymnopilus spectabilis.  However, I have no way of making a positive identification until the spores drop (not that I'd know what to look for anyway) but I really want to see what the experts here have to say.

Here are some thumbnails to pics I've uploaded.  I took them this evening.  I tried to get good, detailed pics, but my flash washed some of them out and then something bit the fire out of me and the mosquitos got to be a bit much, so this is the best I could do :smile:











The older ones were approximately 3-5" wide and the stems were approximately 4-5" long and 1/2"-2/3" thick.

The younger ones were approx. 1/4"-1"+ wide and the stems were 1/8-2/8" thick and 1.5"-2" long.

The gills are attached to the stem which is fibrous and hollow in the two young specimens I picked.  This mushroom bruises brown and has no discernable smell.

The cap has a dry, leathery feel to it, at least on the younger ones, I didn't touch any of the older ones.  It's not any more or less fragile than you'd expect a mushroom to be.

I did notice that the leathery texture is more pronounced the younger the specimen.

The gills were averagely spaced and tapered out and down the closer they got to the stem.

I found these clumps of mushrooms in a backyard in the state of GA on and old bit of pecan stump still in the ground.

I hope I remembered everything :smile:  And thank you for getting this far :wink:

They really look like some species of Armillaria to me.

I second Gumby's comment. Those are Honey Mushrooms (Armillaria).
