Cobweb is easy to beat. Peroxide, or better yet, baking soda will kill it.

i've never delt with cobweb mold....till about 3 days ago...
a patch of it, i took the following actions:
scraped it out (it was only on the top of the casing),
sprayed the fresh wound with a H202, covered the wound with stearilized vermiculite., the next day, it was back...but not heavy like it was, then i doused it with H202.,
it hasnt come back, but i am eager to douse it again if i see any grown there because i cant positivly identify it as mycelium....
should i.....let it grow out to positivly identify if it is mycelium or cobweb....
or...should i keep dousing?

i usually GENTLY mist it once or twice with a 1:5 peroxide:water mixture the following two days after it has dissapeared. This, to me, just assures that if it has/had sporulated, that you kill off all of the mold spores.

I agree, the second day after casing i was getting small fuzzie looking balls of cobweb mold. I sprayed the top of the casing very heavy w/ 3% Hydro.as it was so early i wouldnt disturb the precious mycelium 3/4 of an inch below.I will not let this come between me and my babies. I'll continue to spray until i dont have to.The worst is i'll have to wait alittle longer for the mycelium to regroup.

yup, yup, i totally agree! I think alot of people give up waaaaaay too easily when it comes to contams on a casing. Even with foul bacterial infections, i "dunk" the casing in a h2o2 and h2o colution to try and salvage it. If you've gotten that far, why should you waste the effort. The worst that can possibly happen in a battle for keeping an infected casing alive is that you'll waste about 50 cents worth of peroxide. The only other semi-viable alternative (IMO) is to take the infected casing and put in in the backyard in some nice, rich mulch. Throwing away infected cakes/casings/whatever is usually not the best alternative. Even with "spent" casings/cakes/whatever, dig a whole, throw it in. The worst case scenario is that you'll just be enriching teh soil in your backyard, what do you have to lose?
