how important is it to get a stable ph for your casing layer? Has anyone tried it with and without adding some kind of lime to stabilize it?

Depends on casing. I add lime and gypsum to help mushroom metabolism. If you are using just verm. the pH is 7. Using sphagum moss the pH is a little bit more acidic like 6.5. I mix the moss with verm. If I add lime and gypsum I do it in like a 2/3 porportion gypsum/lime.

I think cc is acidic. Lime raises pH.
Be careful if you are using hydrated lime it could burn the mycelia.
