The wrong choice is Kerry being elected
The danger is being unprepared in the event of a terrorist attack
Cheney believes Kerry would adopt a defensive and indecisive strategy in dealing with terrorist attacks which would lead to a weaker US policy and more attacks down the line.

so, in a sense, if you don't vote for bush and kerry gets elected, then, somehow, we will become unprepared in bush's absence and we will be unable to proactively defend ourselves and further entice the infidels to attack.
vote for me, or you're going to get killed.

I think he's saying that if you vote for Kerry, very bad things might happen to your family. Like they might "accidentally" get run over by a car or get blown up by terrorists or something like that. You wouldn't want that to happen to your family, would you?

What are you talking about silversoul? afoaf was close, but again I don't think the statement is about preventing terrorism, but handling it when it happens. Now you could paraphrase him and say "Vote for me because if you don't and there is a terrorist attack John Kerry will back down and terrorist will attack us more." I don't think what Cheney was saying was thaat extreme, but it offers people that don't like him a way to acknowledge what he meant to say and still be able to call him a fear mongerer. The best of both worlds!

And when Cheney told the Senator "FUCK YOU!", he was actually wishing him a pleasurable sexual experience.

Yeah and when Kerry says he wants a more "sensitive" war on terror he means to give Tom Ridge's job to Richard Simons.
You have to be pretty damn closed minded to refuse to even consider the context of the statement just because you don't like the guy in the first place.

Cheney clarifies remark about terror threat if Kerry is elected Friday, September 10, 2004 Posted: 1911 GMT (0311 HKT) CINCINNATI, Ohio (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney sought to "clean up" a controversy over comments he made this week, saying that the country must brace for a potential terrorist attack no matter who is elected president. Electing Democrat John Kerry does not mean the United States will be hit again, he said in a newspaper interview published Friday. On Tuesday, Cheney told supporters in Iowa that there's a danger the United States will be attacked again "if we make the wrong choice" on Election Day. Democrats pounced on the vice president, with Democratic opponent John Edwards calling Cheney's comments undignified and divisive. President Bush declined to respond when he was asked whether he agreed with his running mate. In an interview Thursday with the Cincinnati Enquirer, Cheney sought to clarify those remarks, saying he wanted to "clean up" the controversy. "I did not say if Kerry is elected, we will be hit by a terrorist attack," Cheney told the newspaper. "Whoever is elected president has to anticipate more attacks. "My point was the question before us is: Will we have the most effective policy in place to deal with that threat? George Bush will pursue a more effective policy than John Kerry," Cheney said. On Tuesday, campaigning in Iowa, Cheney had said: "It's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on Nov. 2, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States." Cheney was in Cincinnati for a "town hall" meeting with about 500 invited supporters. In the public forum, Cheney did not address his earlier remarks, though he offered some of the same context he had given Tuesday, saying the United States cannot view terrorism as it views ordinary crime. He was campaigning Friday on a bus tour through Wisconsin and planned two more "town hall" sessions with supporters.
