sterilising/pasteurising manure
    #3117932 - 09/10/04 10:05 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

hi guys, a few weeks ago i tried to pasteurise manure and i failed cuz i got infected my a mold.
So i wanna try sterilise this time.
If i full a few jars with my manure/hay mix (i can't find straw) and put them in a PC for 1,5 hour would this thing be ok so i can then spawn it in a tupperware with a few brf cakes?
thank you

As far as sterilization goes that is comprehensive enough. so I would say yes.

Some of the advantage of poo/straw is the helpful microorganisms that it contains, which is why usually you pasteurise it rather than sterilizing. It should work either way but you probably would get better results from properly pastuerising (170F for about an hour and 15 min, stirring well). If properly pasteurised there should be no mold issues, but you should also soak it first for a while (a day or so) so the endospores activate so they will die successfully during pasteurization - maybe it missed some endospores last time.

no,
kramer pulls his poo right out of a bag that he buys at the local flower shop and stuffs a big turkey roaster pan full, seals well with heavy duty foil(nothing but reynolds will do) and bakes.
some say that store bought compost is no good however kramer seems to like it,he is lucky that he lives close to a farm town and can buy good compost
it comes with perfect moisture content and it's only $3 for like 40lbs .
aged field dung is probably better.but why fix what ain't broke?
kramer has been mixing about 1 pint of tap water in because his incubator is running on the dry side
