My friend and I were goning on a weilii hunt today in north alpharetta and we're pertty sure we found a single weilii. Sorry for the picture Quality they are from my phone but with the description hopefulyy this will be enough Thankyou all!!!! MUCH LOVE
a. Habitat: N. alph., in a lawn (burmuda grass) in a shaded area near a bunch of pine straw but growing in the grass b. Characteristics of the gills: gills look to be attached, a light tan color c. Measurements of cap and stem: look at pic next to dolar bill but best guesses 3"-4" stem, about 2" cap d. Characteristics of the stem: when picked was a medium tan fading to a lighter tan/white color near gills, after pick stem turned a light blue to almost black in 5-10min seems to be hollow was alittle tougher to pull out of ground e. Characteristics of the cap: round slightly conic, about 2", DARK brown in center going to lighter brown/tan then back darker twards edge. Some blueing around cap a greenish blue f. Spore print color: waiting g. Color that the mushroom bruises: blue - green blue - to a DARK blue looking almost black. h. Scent of mushroom: a new scent to me real pungent maby slightly metalic

nice dude, your description and bad pics seem weilii for sure...the cap is not fully open so it's hard to tell... I also searched over alpharetta today and found many mushrooms, none of active intrest though ... was there just ONE mushroom? did you search all around it and in the rest of the yeard for other mushrooms? a lone welii is possible I guess but often there is more... got any more info? did you get a spore print?

Thanks for the reply. there was more mycillium visable on the ground but it was the only one the ground looks like it'll bust open with em in a couple of days. I'm taking a spore print now is white notebook paper ok i'm out of printer paper. how long will it take to drop spores? also i just smelled where i cut the stem off and the smell was over whelming unlike anything i've ever smelled b4. also this one was found just acouple of hours ago.

go back to the same spot tommorow, and also after subsequent rains in the future... spores will drop within hours.. a drop of water on the cap will aid it...

A spore print is a very good identity indicator. The color is very useful for determining a species, and it can be examined microscopically as well.
A better picture would be helpful for everyone, also.
I searched with 2Experimental... no luck : (

SPORE PRINT IS IN!!!!!! It is a light purple. just alittle bit but enough to tell the color. I know what cube spors look like and it dosn't look like that it is a much more pale purple.

the longer you let it sit the darker it will get... congrats!!! it seems you DO have a weilii.. and also from talking to you in PMS we both were in the same area today... did you see a tan truck doing donuts in a parking lot . I am glad I know this area has them, I was worried the spores had not yet traveled here

You know, thats very impressive. Many people here are probably skeptical of that claim but I know it's possible... I've seen pictures. You know, you could earn a spot in shroomery history if you took a picture of one of these spots. I have a camera I could lend you to document your findings.

I'm pissed I didn't get into this years ago when I lived in the ATL area. I lived in Fayette County, are they that south? My brother lives in an apartment complex surrounded by bermuda, relatively new, too. I went hunting here in Chatt. 'cuz I heard through the grapevine they've been found here. I found some mushies, no actives though. There was a large agaricus patch in a park in Chatt. today. White all over, salmon pink gills that were wavy and attached on the outside, agaricus flecks... but it was in a roped off area. I ran in and snagged one and let the rest be.
I'm gonna check out the other park as well as the one I visited today after Ivan drops his precious rain on me. It's headed my way, and I'm excited. I'll be sure to drop some pictures of the next hunt.
Good luck ATL guys, I miss it there!

and if i may ask ... which way outside of cherokee north south east west? and as to patches being dry or not i just think from what i ha read they seem to produce in larger patches alittle more north , and from what peoples findings also seem to be more east as well of where 2Experimental and i were looking i don't really know but that is just where all the big finds seem to be.

Yep, that'd be a weilii. Good job!
Now if only I could find the fuckers. I searched the Conyers/Covington area for hours and found nothing.

that is why I wonder if they have moved on and out of cherokee mostly, because they have expired the 5-15 year 'life span' for a given area... that is ALL speculation though ... alpharetta is very close to cherokee and it is to the north of us.. is this what you meant? I often hear of big finds in other places and seldom do I hear of fulton county(which is 1/4 of the city of Atlanta and very large extending north from downtown) I wonder if the areas, say 30 mintues outside of even US, is the prime spot, because they have 'moved on'... I also wonder if they will expand across the country slowly (staying in similar climates of course) and if once they leave an area, they can ever come back...
