Mushroom ID
    #3118792 - 09/10/04 03:49 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Found em near a rotted log, some on it, some in the forest floor near it. Wooded area, not much sun, growing in clusters of 20 or 30 about an inch apart from each other. Cap is nearly flat, light brown in color, a couple centimeters in diameter. Stems are thin and about 1-2 inches long, gills are attached and coming down the stem. No noticeable bruise.

Same habitat, but these didnt grow in clusters, whole thing is a purple color, long somewhat thick stem, small cap between 1 and 2 cm in diamter. Sorry for the blurry picture.

Same habitat, long ass stem, small cap brown in color. Looks like another conocybe, but this one i found in the woods so im just checking.

Ill work on spore prints if you need them for further ID, thank you.

Oh boy we got a live one here...!!!!!!
Dextricity I understand your eagerness.
And obviously you have done some homework
with photos and such.. But that last specimen was
found on rotting wood... wrong habitat... ect!!!!!! ect!!!
ect!!!! Observe for a little bit.... that's the second post I've seen
throwing out what mushrooms look like from
you with poor pictures... All some folks need is one
person telling them what the look like and it's down the hatch...
This is serious business... Next time say something like..."I'm new at this
and in no way what so ever am I saying this is what this species may or may not be.. but in my opinion it has very similar characteristics of_ _ _ _ ... But I really don't know so.. don't take my advice please......
Not trying to be a d_ _ _ .. But ,, oh well... take it or leave it, who am I any way... Nofindum.... peace....

The first ones look like Laccarias at first glance, although Tricholoma is also a possibility. Neither group is noted for active species. There are several edible species (especially amont the Tricholomas), and several species of Tricholoma are poisonous.

The second one is the interesting one. The overall appearance suggests one of the Leptonia species. You need a spore print to even get close to genus on this one. Leptonias have pink spore prints, although they often appear flesh colored (almost brown).

The last one suggests one of the many Marasmius species. They are the common rotters of twigs, pine needles, and leaves.

Happy mushrooming!

I meant to insinuate that it "looks" like the mushroom in question, I never gave an actual identification of the mushroom. My bad.

You shouldn't hint on them, because some people might just take that id seriously and chomp them down. And that just wouldn't be pretty

I hate to break it to ya gt, but your "I'll just pick every mushroom I find and ask if it's active" approach to mushroom hunting just isn't going to work.

I suggest reading the FAQs and looking in the right habitats for the right mushrooms that grow in your area.
