straw past on a charcoal grill

Would it work if my friend pastearized straw in a metal tub, sitting on a charcoal grill?

As long as the proper temperature was maintained I can't see why it wouldn't work.

If you can control the temperature well enough and evenly enough, which with charcoal might be difficult unless it's a decent grill with adjustable flue vents and all which will allow the range of heat required for the time required then yeah. You could do it on any heat source in any container but it'd probably be more difficult to be successful. If it gets too hot or too cool during the process it goofs the whole thing and you have to try to regain the right temp and then restart the timer again. Too hot will kill the "good" enzymes which are part of why straw (and poo from things that eat straw like cows and horses) works so well. Too cool might blow the whole process by not assuredly killing off all the nasties like foreign spores and such. You would have better luck with a propane grill of some sort, or for even cheaper you could just pick up a replacement universal burner with the manifold pipes and a regulator (the actual functional pieces of a grill, which then could be rigged in a somewhat safe manner into the other grill frame or put on a less expensive homemade frame) and a tank of propane and get going for probably much less than a whole grill. But that is just postulation of a cheap way to avoid possible hassles of using charcoal.

And please may anyone correct anything about this that's wrong, I am no expert. Also someone should fill in the numbers for the temps and times as I didn't know for sure I didn't include them.

60-90 minutes at 160-180 degrees farenheit. Right in the middle of those ranges = 75mins@170F. Let cool for a couple hours or overnight. Proceed with whatever.
