Bzzzt. Not only did Jonas Salk work his way up in the world through various government funded projects, at universities and even with the US Army, but the bulk of the support for the national foundation for infantile paralysis (which became the march of dimes) came from President Roosevelt, a victim himself of polio. Later it was private companies who manufactured the vaccine (eli lily for example), but was only allowed to be distrbuted (for testing and use) by the US Health Agency.
