50/50 tek

I'm gonna start growing in a couple of days and had a couple questions about the 50/50 casing tek.

First, using the black plastic trays from home depot described in the tek on this site, how many 1/2 pint cakes does it usually take for one casing, and what is the approximate dry yield?

Second, is pastuerizing/sterilizing the 50/50 mix absolutely necesary? and if so, how do you pastuerize?

You can do an estimate yourself by looking at the space your jars take up on a flat surface. Assuming you want thick slices of mycelium and plan to half the cakes (and assuming you've used 1/2 pint wide mouth), double that area, then subtract a few jars to make up for crumbled mycelium you'll be putting inbetween the round slices. How's that compare to the size of the tray?

Wow, I made that sound really difficult but it's simple, I promise. :smile:

Edit: Oops, I forgot the rest. Pasteurization or sterilization is 100% necessary. I can't comment on dry yield. Too many variables.
