I have a Mirro 4qt Pressure Cooker from Wal-Mart. Paid about $18 for it, actually a bit less than that, but it holds up fine. Only reaches 10 psi though, and can only hold 6 1/2 pint jars but hell, for the price, it works perfect.

I have an all american, I would just spend 20-30$ more and get one used off of ebay. All the others are bound to blow their seal after a while. Sure you can get another gasket etc for it, but all americans are just quality, even used ones. Another case of you get what you pay for.

I agree completely, American pc's are badass. Check any local thrift shops before you buy one online. I found a nice big American there for under $10 and it works beautifully.

I have a presto. It holds five canning jars perfectly. I find it very reliable and it seems well built.
You can pick one up at a department store so why order it online?

It's a 6qt Manttra from K-Mart, heh... It's not bad for $25 though. The gasket seems solid, it hits 12psi (I don't mind cooking 30 more minutes. I'd do it anyway out of extreme caution) and it's pretty solid.

I thought the Mantra was poor. The Mirro is nice, an 8qt from walmart is like $40. Works great, but if a larger american can be had for $10 at a thrift store then hell.....

I also have the little cheap Mirro 4qt 10psi like FiddySix, works ok for me. I fit four of the 1 pint jelly jars (tall ones), but it would probably fit a few more of the wide little shorties if I had those. You do need to cook longer though, and the rocker style ones basically suck, but you get used to it once you know where to set your stove to get the right pressure going (slow rocking on the rocker). I shoulda checked the resale/thrift shops for a nicer one for cheap but I was a dumbass a couple months ago. But I haven't had much trouble with the seals (yet) anyway though I do see how much they could suck just by their design.
