Preparing Reshi for Ingestion
    #3114960 - 09/09/04 07:36 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Well ive tried the tea,
and boy was it gross. !!

The other day i read in Mushrooms Demystified
That you can cut your dried Reishi's into little pieces
And then put them into a bottle of Red Wine
And let it sit and work its magic for several months
And then drink.

That sure sounds yummy to me!~
Im going to try this soon
-Well, not really soon because it takes several months but,

Has anyone ever done this?
Any other Reishi ingestion tips?

i was actually wondering the same thing, as i have found several edible ganaderma related to reishi!

i was thinking i would make a tea, and i figured it would be gross so i was just gonna add lots of milk and sugar...or maybe combine it with another tea somehow...

but if anyone has any other recommendations, i'd definitely love to hear them as well!

I used to find the tea nasty, but I find you get used to the bitter taste:) The mycelium on grain is very quick growing, almost as effective as the fruitbodies but is much more palatable. My milo-substrate reishi mycelium tea tastes pretty good, like mushroomy grain.

I think I?ll try making reishi wine and maybe even reishi beer!

I kinda like the taste   I feel like a bona fide gnome drinking it.

The more developed the conch/antler, the more bitter the brew, at least IME.  I still like it.  You can add your favorite tea bag to hot reishi tea, or, if that's still too reishi-ish, just dilute it with a cup of your tea.

I use a coffee grinder, but stop short of powdering the material.  Simmer for an hour or so and strain---french press works nicely.

I like the tea as well. Except I add a lot of honey and orange juice to it as well. When I drink a tea of medicinal mushrooms, I get them all done in one shot. I take the maitake, lions mane, and reishi and steap em all in water.

You can also make a tinciture using ever clear. Figure out how many dried grams you are using in it and figure out the ratio of weight to valume of the finished product.

I am makeing a liquid extract (tincture) at the moment by double extraction. First using everclear 1:5 (1gram of cut up reishi to 5ml of alcohol) and then a hot water extraction of the mark or spent herb mass after you seperate it from the alcohol. Decoct the marc in five times its volume of water for an hour. seperate the water from the mark and evaporate tea by simmering under low heat to 1/5 its original volume then combining them together at the end. 20-25% alcohol is needed for the end result to preserve the extract. Use good clean pruners to cut up the polypore. Has anyone worked with Ganoderma orgegonense, I just found two and want to work with these as well. T/E
