New Song- Contentment Under Starry Skies
    #3114661 - 09/09/04 06:37 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Ok this is a song I've been writing over the last couple of weeks.. it's an acoustic demo at the moment and I'm going to realisie it into a full-blown tune, if you like it check this thread every so often, I will post every time I update. Thought it might be interesting to see how it unfolds, and if anyone has any ideas to make it better, I'm open to suggestions! Hope you like it anyway  :sun:

Contentment Under Starry Skies
Rob K

Moonlight over midnight oceans
Calling me away
Campfire lights your skin so bright
The glowing embers die away
Don't wake me from this dream
Don't take me from this place where nothing's as it seems

It's a perfect night
Contentment under starry skies
Eyes open wide
Contentment under starry skies

Red light trails into the distance
Driving you away
Starlight shines on this heart of mine
Just got no choice but to stay
Counting the miles to infinity
Counting the hours till the day we are free

No need to be alone
I know she's watching over me
Sleeping under starry skies
No space or time, don't wake me from this dream
Wake me from this dream

That is really good.

The only complaint I could possibly make would be that I don't really dig the sound of your voice... but that's personal taste.
And the song was good enough that I listened to the whole thing anyway.

Also: maybe I'd say it's a bit too happy sounding a lot of the time... but again, that's personal taste... I just think it ends up a little corny... I remember picturing Mary Poppins during the chorus, if that helps you out at all.

I like it. I'd recommend trying out a capo to raise the register and help those lower notes get a little clarity

The chorus is quite interesting, IMO the corniness is avoided because the harmonic progression is so unique. You've got a good ear, my friend, I've said it all along.

Some countermelody work with an electric would sound quite good, with some spacey effects, delay/flange to get that nighttime sky effect.

Exploit the imagery--twinkling, dark, 'perfect night'....

Good demo buddy, good job!

Cheers guys!

JC I think I know where you're coming from with the Mary Poppins thing, though I'd say it in a more general sense- to me that chorus sounds a little like it could be from any number of musicals. Hopefully once I pad it out with electric guiars and drums it shouldn't sound so much like that.

Blastrid, I doubt that if I put a capo on there I'd be able to hit the high notes very convincingly- I'll give it a try but may only be able to raise it by a semitone if at all. Also, I'm trying to get around the low note issue by singing it in a half whisper, which I think kinda works (it's better in verse 2..) I'm looking forward to adding some really spacy effects on the electic, I've got ideas for this.

Thanks again guys  :sun:
