Panaeolus Cyanescens
    #3114250 - 09/09/04 05:06 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I just have a few questions about Panaeolus Cyanescens. Wild Bird seed considered a grain spawn, right?  I'm pretty sure it is but I just want to make sure.  If so, do you  inoculate the jars the same way you would with Psilocybe Cubensis ( http://shroomery.org/index/par/23619 )?  Also, can you prepare and outdoor bed for Panaeolus Cyanescens the same as you would for Psilocybe Cubensis (manure + hay - http://shroomery.org/index/par/23355 )?  What about using some worm casting in addition too the manure and hay to maybe help prevent contamination?  Thank you for your help

Thank you so very much for those links Semilanceata!

Just one more question...in many of those threads they mention pasteurizing the manure and hay first and how they are considered wood lovers (well that was only in 1 or 2 threads), and so is this outdoor tek: http://shroomery.org/index/par/23355 not really recommended for Panaeolus Cyanescens?  The reason I ask is because I haven't really seen any good outdoor teks on Panaeolus Cyanescens.

Better use straw (wheat, barley) than hay.

If it?s the first time just like me, I would go with pcing the substrate, then case after colonization.

woodlover.......psilocybe cyanescens (cool weather)
dunglover........panaeolus cyanescens (warm weather). Known from Mexico and Hawaii (TMC).

Can?t help you in the outdoor issue, but maybe is not easy at all.

Still, thank you very much Semilanceata

I guess I will PC the bag manure and straw just too be on the safe side...but what about lining the outdoor bed with worm casting that hasn't been in the PC?  I ask because I've heard worm casting is suppose to contain good bacteria, which helps fight off the bad bacteria = reduced chance of contamination?  I'm afraid if I PC the worm casting it will kill off the good bacteria so I won't try that.

Does anyone else want to give my outdoor question a try ?

Outdoor final substrate doesn?t need to be sterilized.

Wow...outdoor growing is getting easier and easier. So I can basically just follow the Outdoor Tek ( http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23355 ), colonize them in Wild Bird Seed and dump the colonized cake into a bag, break up the cake with a spoon, and spread it all over the grow patch (doing something like this http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23805 )?

If the weather conditions where you live are right for the specie being grown then go ahead.

Would you happen to have a link to somewhere that kind of gives a description of the correct weather conditions.  All I've read was that the temperature should be around 75 degrees (I'm covered for that) but that's about it.  Most of the information I've found about this species was for indoor growers, not too much about outdoor growing :frown:

Thank you so much Semilanceata, you have been a HUGE help
