Problems with cool-mist
    #311229 - 05/07/01 10:06 AM (22 years, 11 months ago)

Hey all. I was talking with a friend and he told me he recently tried to use a cool-mist (The Kaz Vick's model) in his setup. But he said he tried 1hr. on 3 off in a 20 gal. tank and the humidity was only around 75%. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas. And if anyone else uses Cool-mists please advise as to your personal set-up and how it's going. Thanks in advance for the help.

Just for clarification, the pipe with smaller holes would be completely inside the terrarium? The current setup uses garden hose instead of piping, will this work with your suggestion?

No very straitforward and simple thanks. Now just for more clarification, I'm just one of those guys that needs to know how everything works, how does this technique allow you to run the humidifier 24/7 ?

Thanks for all the help McMan, you are the Extra Value meal of cultivators my friend :)

Should I seal the hose in the humidifier, and also seal the humidifier together (It's one of the one's that the whole top comes off) I notice it leaks a little. Also should these formulas be followed exactly to ensure proper functioning of the setup, or can I guesstimate? I'm kinda of lazy, and spent most of my energy towards the beginning of the project. Also are there any other ways of using the cool-mist other than just straight-thru timed, and 24/7 jetstream(?)? Thanks again McMan!

This model had a 1x3" (Approx.) wavy slit as the output. I sealed this then drilled a 11/16 inch hole and stuck the hose in there. Should I add another hose?

The only thing I am worried about 24/7 is the humidifier drying out and burning up. Other than that I'm all for it.

Thanks again McMan you are a god!

I've had similar problems with a 24/7 coolmist setup drying out the substrate. One thing I did [accidentally] that worked like a charm was to increase the amount of substrate within the fruiting chamber, approaching a total chamber volume:substrate volume ratio of about 4:1, maybe 5:1
I'm sure getting all the airflow, hole spacing correct will make a huge difference, but larger substrate volumes [to a point] has given my system more of a 'fidge factor'. Maybe you could accomplish the same thing by just adding a few perlite trays.
At least that's what it seems like to me.
Oh, and this one goes 24/7 now without a problem.

Airflow is then the problem with perlite. Fanning isn't really an option. Time constraints. Also I believe cakes are being used. How does this factor? He's currently testing out 24/7 two hoses at opposite ends. 3 hours so far RH 92% And around 69 F w/o light. But I doubt the light will provide a lot of heat. Is that a problem?

Small tray of perlite (4x4x2) was added. Cake over top on screen. Should that be sufficient? My friend thanks you.
