You can use popcorn just like any other grain. Magash's rye tek is what you want. I'll bump it for you.

I have it... it's what I used for rye back when I was hitting it up. Just wasn't sure if it would work the same way. Thanks man

1.soak popcorn for 24 hours

2.rinse in colonder to clean them off

3.simmer for half hour

4.drain for half hour-45 mins

5.load into jars (leave room for shakage)

6.pc@15 psi for 60 mins

7. i recommend adding a lil bit of dry verm so it can soak up excess moisture.

the trick with grains is to make sure they LOOK dry but really theres plenty of moisture, you boiled it inside so you cant really see it.

To me, i think if youre going to soak for the binifit f germinating spores, wouldnt you want to do that after you load them into the jars?  Because if you rinse after the soak, you are just letting in more spores from the enviroment. Not as many, but still.  I would think that letting unsterilized grain sit overnight inside the sealed container would be better, so then you sterilize without exposing the settled grain to the enviroment.

But thats just my thinking and so far it hasnt gotten me very many places in this field :pennydrop:

Yes you are right in one way. But the reason to soak grain is to allow the endospores inside the grains to hatch.

What are endospores???  They are like a built in backup seed for the nasties. They will survive just about anything including a trip in the PC. So it is neccessary to soak the grain to get them bastards to open up. They think it time to party but really it's time to DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE

Also if you're rinsing with tap water then chances are it has some chlorine in it, which protects from other nasties which might otherwise jump in the water stream from out of the air and such during the rinse. And yes some do soak a few times, or let the jars sit a bit before the PC step to be more certain that the endospores are massacred, and it is not pointless but perhaps a bit extra. If it makes you feel better then do it, you'll probably have no less success. But it could just be extra work for nothing since Psychoslut's list of things above (which seem right to me) generally are successful without contams - if the water level is right.

I would stick with a tek, such as Magash's rye tek. When you start doing your own thing you are taking chances, no matter how trivial of a change that it seems like.
