Anybody use a heating pad for heat...

With the weather getting cooler I'm only hitting about 78 max in my grow area, I was thinking of tossing a heating pad under my incubator and/ or fruiting chamber to jack the temps up to around 85.
Anyone have thoughts on this? I don't really kow if a heating pad under a water filled hydro pod is safe farmer #1!

Yeah, I do, but as the heat for my incubator. It's a Sterlite tub with a towel on the bottom and a heating pad underneith. I also slightly humidify my incubator to stop drying.
Just get a thermomiter and a hygrometer. Those will help you make sure your heating pad is working for you and not against you!

my friend tried this but didn't like it,not to mention the chances of it starting a fire. too much to worry about, from then on he had a cooler inside his laundry room, with the dryer running time to time and the water heater being inside this small room, the temp was usually a constant 80 degrees. but he has had much luck with just incubating at room temp. doing this you will definetely have to cold shock. you don't need heat for the growing chamber, 70-72 is optimal for p cubensis

What is a safe heating solution? I do have a thermom/ hygrom...I just need a safe source for heat.
I was even thinking of putting a pc up there and running a burn in program 24x7...that would do it!

your incubator needs to be in the low 80s for optimal colonization, the fruiting chamber should be in the low to mid 70's
now back it the early days my incubator consisted of a tub-in-tub with a heating pad underneath, and separating the heating pad from the floor was a piece of fire retardant drywall, the inner tub had holes drilled around the perimiter and several in the center with the outer tub being filled with about an inch of water. the heating pad was set to low and it maintained 82F

Dude has used a heating pad before both for incubators and for terrariums. Worked like a charm.

I use a heating pad for incubation. I have it on the middle setting(of 3), and I stack a few magazines and newspapers on top of it. I put my jars in a shoebox that I place on top of those. Last time I measured it stayed at about 83 degrees. I had full colonization of my 1/2 pint jars in less than 2 weeks. My fruiting chamber stays at room temp, which is about 74.
