Cacti Invaders....
    #3112777 - 09/09/04 11:15 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Just noticed this morning that some of my cacti outside in nan's cacti mix have tiny black spots crawling on them near the spines. They look almost like black sperm with tiny black heads and almost larva like bodies? Anyone know of any organic remedies for this type of annoyance? Also is there any bug that propogates itself under the skin of pedro and turns the outer layer black, but keeps the flesch hardened???

If They're stationary, they're standard cactus freckles... we dunno what causes them, but if they arent growing or getting soft, they're fine...

Any idea on the black sperm invaders that are crawling on the spines?

Try getting a bunch of cigarette butts, soaking them in water, and spraying the cactus with that. It won't hurt your cactus and kills just about any bugs that try to attack it. It's worked for me. I usually throw some rubbing alcohol in there too to kill off any bacteria that may have decided it liked my cactus as well... may not be organic as you see it.. but it works.

water steeped in cigarette butts combined with a couple teaspoons of washing up liquid will kill just about anything.
