i ve had my cakes in y terrarium for almos a week and a half waiting for some pinning and nothings goin on. the humidity is around 93 and temp-76 im using an ultra sonic humidifier and just noticed i had 2 contams so i pulled them out. is everything ok? is pinning supposed to take that long? i was supposed to put the cakes vermiculite side down after pulling from the jars right? thnx for any sigh of relief..

Carbon Dioxide levels may be too high as well. Make sure you get more air exchanges in. This usually prevents contams as well by not allowing competitor molds to gett too cozy on the cakes/casing.

I doubt thats the problem but I'm no expert. If 93% humidity is too much what should the humidity be for PF style cakes?

humidity for fruiting cubes should be 10-20% less than what you use to grow (vegitavely) thru the verm. casing layer... if your using just cakes maybe you need to BUMP UP the humidity ... but i know that when fruiting casings you need to drop the humidity by using fanning or opening up your casing container for long intervals... i'm sure if you want to fruit off of cakes this method is a bit similar... .... now when you grow some fruits here's a "litmus test" as too see if your humidity is too high or not... look at the caps (small/large abhorts/healthy) if the caps have any white fuzz (acutaly mycelum) your humidity is way too high... i'm sorry i couldn't help you specificaly with CAKES ... it's just that, i myself, have given up on growing off of cakes....peace and good luck

now i might not be the smartest person in the world, but from what i've read and been told isnt it the opposite? White growth on caps = too low humidity
