Ok, afoaf put a bunch of contaminated cakes outside and 5 wks later there is little mushrooms growing from the patch.
It was Orissa India with wbs. But the mushrooms are not staining blue and they are very small, my friend is concerned.
There is a little black under the caps, but I think this is spores.
Pics
Is this cubensis?!
Thanks

Best not to risk it. The caps look like cube caps but that means nothing. If they do not bruise then forget them (by no means is that the only indicator you should check but they've failed that test so there is no point going on).

All the Orissa's I've had stained blue almost instantly, and very dark too. If it ain't blue it ain't true. Throw 'em out.

I'm no expert, but there's something about those that just doesn't scream the "cubies" word to me. Probably the gills. They don't look dark to me.

FF of course means to say there are far too many variables, especially outside in an uncontrolled environment, for anyone to be able to determine this. It could take 5 weeks, it could take 5 months. Mostly if there has been enough rain lately (or you water the area, but not too much!), and the average temps are below 80 degrees, you might get faster results than slower. But we have no way of knowing, short of psychic powers or crystal balls. We could guess but that would not be helpful, since it's like "pick a number from 1 to 100". Just think what conditions are needed in a fruiting chamber inside, and try to watch the weather for a few days in a row (probably more like a week or two) where the temps and rain and humidity and such are all near what we aim for on indoor grows, and if they aren't (like, not enough rain or humidity but good temps) then maybe you can do some extra things to help like watering a little or putting wet non-nutritative casing type materials over the area so the humidity right at the soil level at least is high enough to trigger pinning/fruiting. Also, there is no guarantee these conditions will happen in your local piece of nature, and they may not grow fruits at all, especially if your local conditions are wildly different than the climate the strain is from (like, Amazons probably won't work real well if you try them outside in Arizona, it's too damned dry).
Though I sort of liked his answer, too.
